Fishing Derby

Today was the big ice fishing derby at Sheepscot Pond, in the town where Chris grew up. First we stopped by the Fish & Game Club, where the girls really liked the decorations, especially the moose (below).
The girls seemed all ready to go ice fishing, so we headed out on the lake.Unfortunately, it proved to be a little cold for them, and Kate had a mini-breakdown, so we had to head back to the car to warm up.We decided to go visit Melinda for awhile and warm up. Her husband Mark was plowing out the barn on his 4-wheeler when we got there. We had a nice time visiting. Melinda even made us some pizza! After lunch we went back to the Fish & Game clubhouse, and now it was really crowded, with people bringing in their fish from the derby. Chris saw lots of people she knew from the old neighborhood, and the girls ate a lot of cookies. While we were eating, an amazing thing happened: A plane with skis landed on the lake!We went out to watch, and soon there were a bunch of planes landing and taking off, and some of them even buzzed the clubhouse! The girls thought the planes were really neat. After the planes left, we played in the snow for awhile and watched all the snowmobiles out on the lake.Chris really loves playing in the snow. We're hoping that next year the girls will actually want to fish in the derby!
