First Annual Central Maine Scone Invitational

Today was the long-awaited scone baking competition among our group of "master bakers." Trash talk was flying all week as the bakers prepared for the showdown.
The competitors were Tina, Hilary, Amy, and Chris.
The judges panel consisted of the bakers plus Henning, John, Arne, Brenda, and Kate (the non-voting member). Notice that Kate is greatly anticipating the scone tasting in the photo below.First we had to get all of the kids distracted, which was easy since Luke and Alison generously shared all their toys. Then the tasting began. The different entrants were numbered to eliminate any spouse vote-rigging.
There was lots of discussion about the different flavors of scones--the entrants included ginger, blueberry-lemon, cranberry-orange, and cherry, as well as plain.
It was a tough competition--some of the judges even took scone density into account. There was careful scoring........and then the votes were tallied........and the clear winner was Hilary! Surprisingly, her winning scones were "plain", with no additional flavors or berries. They were delicious!Kate in particular enjoyed tasting all the scones--it was her favorite kind of party. In fact, all the kids loved the scones. We all can't wait for the Second Annual event!
