Trek Across Maine Day 1

The big event has finally arrived:  The Trek Across Maine!
Thursday afternoon the team gathered at our house to load up bikes for the trip to Sunday River. We said goodbye to the kids (Nana had generously offered to watch them for the weekend) and hit the road.
On the drive up we reviewed the Trek route. It seemed kind of hilly! We did some carb-loading at the Trek buffet dinner at the lodge.David Warren was nice enough to help transport us and our bikes...thanks David!Team Captain Chris was sporting her new Tour de France hat, and she was psyched up for the ride.We took a team photo before checking in to our condos for the night. Go Kennewaldo All-Stars!The forecast called for rain, so we pinned our numbers to our rainjackets in preparation, then settled in for a peaceful night's sleep.Sure enough, the next morning it was pouring. We gathered at the starting line and got ready to ride.Grandma and Pop Pop were all ready with their new raingear. And yes, those are showercaps over their helmets. The ride was wet and sloppy--we got split up but some of us met again at the first rest stop. It was very muddy, but we were so hungry we didn't care.Sixty five miles later, we were finally at our destination:  Farmington! We caught a shuttle van over to the hotel to warm up and clean up.After showers and dry clothes we called Day 1 a success, and started thinking about Day 2.
