The kids love to talk, and they pretty much chatter non-stop these days. It's hard to remember, but there was a time when we wondered what it would be like to have a conversation with our kids.
Some of our blog readers might not know that Emily has delayed speech development, and has worked with a speech therapist since she was about eighteen months old. When we moved here two summers ago we had to put together a list of the words she could say (in preparation for her new therapist) and it was only about 25 words long. Now, after a year of preschool, she has a vocabulary of hundreds of words, and she loves to tell stories (which can go on and on). Kate meanwhile has been developing her vocabulary too, and her speech is about average for her age. She can't seem to pronounce the "s" sound at the front of words, so she says things like "top it!" for "stop it" (usually to Emily), and "tep tool" for "step stool". The step stool in their bathroom that has one short leg is the "tippy tep tool", which never fails to make us smile.Sometimes we can't figure out what one kid is saying, so we ask the other one to translate--and this usually works!Part of the fun of raising kids is watching them grow and change. Sometimes we have to really take a step back to appreciate how far they have come in just a few short years.

I love listening to Addison talk too - funny, she also has trouble with the 's' at the beginning of words. One of my favorites is how she relates time, she'll say, "in a couple of whiles Mama." I never realized how often I say certain phrases and words.
