Bike Swap

Today we made the long drive up to Orono to go to the Great Maine Bike Swap. Our Trek Across Maine teammate LeeAnn decided to come with us. We got there right before it opened (in order to get the great deals), so we had to wait in line for a few minutes.
Our kids aren't great at waiting in lines...luckily there was a rock wall for them to play on.
Today was one of those mornings where Kate acted her age (2). This should explain her outfit (long johns, crocs, and a too-tight sweater with the hood up). When we finally got in, there were lots of bikes to look at! Chris was looking for a few specific things, but it's kind of hard to shop with a pre-schooler (and Tigger) hanging on to your arm. Emily is still in the tricycle phase of life, but she did try out a couple of bikes with training wheels. She really took a shine to this little dirt bike. Kate didn't see anything that was pink enough for her. It's amazing what a little bag of corn chips can do to settle kids down when they start to get bored. For the total cost of $1 Mom got 10 minutes of peace. We didn't come home with any bikes or bike parts, but we found a sweet deal on bike jerseys. Chris got one, Brenda got two, and LeeAnn got three! After the chaos of the bike swap, the girls needed to work off some energy before we got back in the car for the long drive home. We found some rocks to climb on, and a nearby drainage pond to throw pinecones in.Then we took a little walk to stretch our legs. Orono is home to the University of Maine (the "Black Bears"), and the Bike Swap was held in the student athletic center. We decided to walk down by the athletic fields. Then we came across the Black Bear softball team warming up for their game against Hartford. Emily thought the team was pretty cool. Maybe she'll be a Black Bear someday?Predictably, Kate found a tractor to "drive."  Maybe Kate will be a groundskeeper someday?
