Easter (Ice Cream) Sunday

Today we celebrated Easter by heading over to Amy, Henning, Alison, and Luke's house for an egg hunt and some homemade ice cream. Mama decided we should all wear Easter bonnets, so we tried on a bunch of our hats.
Kate couldn't decide on what clothes to wear, but she knew just which hat she wanted! She also practiced for the egg hunt by filling her basket up with trucks. When we got there, Alison read us some things she has learned about the Easter Bunny in the last few days. Apparently Mr. Bunny has a wife, but no phone (he uses birds to send messages), and he is seventeen years old. We were very impressed by Alison's reading skills (she is in first grade). The girls immediately checked out all of Luke and Alison's toys. Then we all had a tasty lunch, compliments of Amy. In a brilliant strategy move, she suggested that we feed the kids first, then send them to play while the grownups enjoyed a nice, quiet meal. What a great idea! The kids played very nicely together. Then we took them upstairs to play while the Easter Bunny hid eggs in the back yard. Finally the Easter Bunny was done hiding eggs, and the kids ran outside to search. It was a little chilly out, but at least it wasn't raining. They were very excited. There were lots of eggs to find!Kate found out right away that the eggs had candy inside them. That was all she needed to know--after that she was an inspired searcher.Luke was searching the yard so fast he was almost a blur!Emily found some eggs in some crazy places. And Alison, since she was the oldest, very nicely left a few obvious eggs out for the little kids to find. Thanks Alison! After all the eggs were found, the kids showed off their full baskets. We played a little bit more outside, but it was pretty cold so we didn't stay out long. Emily can't wait until we get our own sandbox........and our own slide too! She showed everyone how she can slide with no hands. Finally it was time for homemade ice cream. They had three different flavors to choose from:  chocolate chip mint, raspberry chip, and maple walnut. Amy was very proud of her ice cream.
And she was right to be proud. It was delicious!
After the ice cream the kids were in a sugar daze, so we decided to head for home. Easter was sure a lot of fun this year!
