This morning Mama went on a bike ride while Mom and Grandpa L. took the cars and the kids down to Augusta. The cars needed some work done at the Honda dealership, and the kids wanted to go to the Maine Sportsman Show, which was happening at the Civic Center.
First we went through the car wash, which Emily loves to do. Kate was a little apprehensive about it (notice she is clutching her purple purse).
The girls got balloons at the dealership! Then we headed over to the Civic Center. It looked like the show was going to be really crowded.......and it was. It was packed with people and exhibits. We didn't really know what to expect, and we found out that the Sportsman Show is mostly about hunting, fishing, and taxidermy. The girls saw a lot of interesting things. There were duck decoys........off-road vehicles to "drive"........chainsaws to play with........and fun things to touch, including antlers, otter pelts, and turtle shells.Kate's highlight was our snack break, when she downed almost this entire box of popcorn.Emily thought the archery exhibit was really neat. She wanted to shoot some arrows, but she's not quite old enough yet. Kate was disturbed by the fact that they were using balloons as targets. Kate loves balloons.Mom thought the neatest part was the free ATV lessons in the parking lot. Kids as young as 5 were driving around cones and having a great time. The instructors offered to let the girls go for a ride, as long as Mom or Grandpa drove, but Em and Kate weren't quite ready. Maybe next year!
