Today in the afternoon Kate was napping and Mama was planning her garden, so Mom and Emily decided to go visit Farmer Steve. He is an organic dairy farmer who has about 100 cows and also grows hay--he even mows our field with his big tractor!
He was just putting his tractor in the barn when we stopped by.
He was glad to show us his cows up close. It was lunchtime and they were chowing down, so all we could really see was a lot of....um......cow butts. Emily still thought it was neat to be so close to the herd.
Farmer Steve thought Emily might like to see the calves, and he was right! He showed us the separate area where he keeps the little ones.
Emily thought the calves were fantastic. She almost let them eat out of her hand, even though they are much bigger than her. She couldn't wait to get home and tell Kate where we had gone.
Farmer Steve told Emily she can come over and do some farm work any time she wants to!
