Grandma & Grandpa L. will be moving soon from their rental house on China Lake (they bought a house in Waterville!), so today we decided to go canoeing with them. Mom took the kids over so Mama could work some more in the garden.
The kids were thrilled to go canoeing. We went once last Fall, but Kate was so scared that she started crying. Today they both couldn't wait to get out on the water. They have special lifejackets made just for kids, with extra straps and head pillows to keep them floating upright (just in case!) We hoped we wouldn't need them.Nana came over to go canoeing too. She is an expert, so we let her do most of the paddling. The girls were a little bit tentative as we pushed off........but they loved drifting along on the water. They kept pointing out things on the beach.Nana was a good sport to paddle us around. She didn't even mind that we brought some rocks along to throw in the water!Eventually we dropped Nana off on the beach and Grandpa rode with us for awhile. That was fun too!We had a great time canoeing today. We hope that someday we'll have our own canoe. After we came in from the lake we had a nice pizza lunch in Grandma & Grandpa's sunroom. Yum!When we got home from canoeing the girls ran out to the garden to tell Mama all about it, but she had a surprise for us too--Chuckie the woodchuck! The neighbors had set a "Have a Heart" trap to catch Chuckie so he wouldn't destroy their garden. Why didn't we think of that? The girls liked being so close to Chuckie. They even got to hear him talk (more like a squeak). Fun!
