The event we have been waiting for all summer is finally here: Our family vacation to Prince Edward Island! We packed up the CRV with our clothes, bikes, kids, and Nana, and headed north.
Traveling with young kids always takes longer than you expect....luckily we brought our potty, so even though we had to take a lot of bathroom breaks, finding a bathroom was not a problem. When we got to the border crossing at Calais, we celebrated by eating lunch at McDonalds--a rare treat.I have always thought that Ronald is just a little bit creepy....this statue only confirmed that (but the kids liked it).Waiting in line to cross the border took an hour! We were not expecting it to be this long and the kids were very bored. Next time we will cross at Houlton, where we hear it goes much faster.Overall the kids did very well in the car for the 9 hour trip. We had some new books and toys, and brought some crayons too. No DVD player yet, but that may be in our future. This is always the goal. When we finally crossed the bridge to the Island, we were greeted by this billboard. Will our kids also reward us with kisses for bringing them here? Time will tell.We found our rental cottage right away...it's very nice, and has a view of the beach!Emily was trying to be patient, but after sitting all day in the car she could not wait to hit the surf.We quickly found the trail........and then we hit the beach! The weather was cloudy and the tide was high, so we had it to ourselves. The view was beautiful and the water was warm....perfect!PEI is known for its red sand beaches. The sand has a lot of clay in it and is great for writing in or making sandcastles. It sure was nice to stretch our legs after the long journey. After the excitement of the beach, the kids went to bed easy. Nana stayed with them while Chris and Brenda met up with their old friend Shannon, who owns a cabin on the same road. She was having a bonfire with a bunch of old high school friends, so we joined in!It was a long day of travel, but we sure are glad to finally be on vacation and be here in such a beautiful place.
