PEI Days 2 & 3

Day 2 of our PEI vacation dawned cloudy, but the girls were intent on hitting the beach again so off we went. Kate insisted on being the one to pull the wagon of sand "tools", as she calls them.
Both girls like playing in the sand, but Kate is willing to sit for much longer than Em.
Emily discovered that for her it is more fun to pull the wagon really fast down the beach and/or whip it around and let it fly. Fun!
They did work together to build their first real sand castle ever. Now that is a milestone.
After the beach we got cleaned up and played in the screened-in porch for awhile. This is the best feature of our cottage, due to the hungry mosquitos that swarm around whenever it is cloudy. Kate calls them "Fritos".
After lunch we found a playground to entertain Mom and the kids while Mama and Nana went grocery shopping.

Then Mom and Mama got to go on our first bike ride! We went about 20 miles, and visited a lighthouse across the bay from Summerside. The scenery is so beautiful here, and the Island is so flat, that it's perfect for riding bikes.
We hit the beach again just before dinner. The tide was out so we got to walk way out on the sand. Kate is very attached to her "tools" and would not leave them behind.
Emily's goal in life is apparently to swim across the ocean, so we really have to keep close tabs on her.

The beach can really wear you out. Both girls were very tired by the time dinner rolled around.

After dinner we walked down the road to Shannon's cottage to see if her kids wanted to play. We worked with Shannon's husband, Shawn, on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge project, and they are both originally from PEI. Even though right now their family lives in Virginia, Shannon and her kids Jack & Lucy spend the summers here every year. Tonight they were having a barbecue with both sets of their kids' grandparents.
Our kids were so tired that it was hard for them to socialize, but they did enjoy playing on Jack & Lucy's toys.

It was so nice to just relax and catch up with Shannon a little bit.

Day Three of our adventure dawned sunny for the first time...Yay! Once again, we made our way down to the beach.

After the beach we all relaxed some more at the cottage. The two themes for this vacation seem to be Beach and Relaxing, which in fact was our goal.
Unfortunately (or fortunately if you are getting tired of all the repetition), our camera conked out soon after this last set of photos was taken. I guess red sand doesn't mix well with electronics! So this may be the last blog post of the trip, but from this point on you can well imagine how we will be spending our time....

  2. Who wrote that? How can you come to PEI and not read Anne of Green Gables?? I think I may read the whole series...it kind of grows on you.
