First Day of School!

Today was the long-awaited first day of preschool. The girls were ready to go, although Emily always gets a little weepy at the thought of being separated from Mama. She made sure to bring her hanky along.

Mom took a few hours off work to come and join in the big event. Kate was very excited to finally be a "big girl" and go to school like Emily.Mama, meanwhile, was thrilled at the prospect of having three hours all to herself every day while the girls are both in school. She was looking forward to her 40+ mile bike ride immediately after class started.There were, of course, some tears.The day was a huge success! Their teachers reported that both Kate and Em had a great day at school, which their moms were very glad to hear.

Later on at home, Kate showed Mama what she has already learned in just one day of preschool: She spelled her and her sister's name with the magnetic letters!Tonight after dinner we celebrated the big milestone with (what else?) a little ice cream at Smiley's.
