Windsor Fair

Today we celebrated Labor Day by taking the kids to the Windsor Fair. This is the biggest fair in our area, and Mama used to go to it every year growing up.
We started off in the livestock barns, but the kids weren't as interested this year as they were last year. Kate does like to look at poultry for some reason........and they both think that baby pigs are pretty cute (who doesn't?).They liked "driving" a tractor. But the biggest thing they both wanted to do was go on rides. It was ride bracelet day at the Fair, which made it somewhat affordable. We got there a little early and had to wait about 20 minutes for the rides to open, which was kind of difficult for the girls. When the rides finally opened, the first thing the kids hit was the bounce house.......then it was on to the motorcycles, which are always a favorite. It was great to see Kate enjoying the rides right alongside Emily, since she didn't want anything to do with them earlier this summer at Old Orchard Beach.
The girls got to ride double on a four-wheeler....
....and side-by-side (with Mom) on the carousel.Kate even went up in a helicopter with a girl she didn't know! When the kids started looking tired we finished up with a trip on the ferris wheel (actually gondolas, which are even more fun). This ride made Mama very nervous. She's not afraid of heights, but she was pretty worried about the kids falling out. From the top of the ride we had a great view all across the fairgrounds. We could even see some of the harness racing!Mom thought the gondolas were pretty neat. After the gondolas the moms wanted to go to the Exhibition Hall and see Aunt Sara's prizewinning knitting, but the kids were totally worn out and starting to act up, so we had to head back to the car.Whenever we have a big adventure like this, the girls usually fall asleep on the way home. In the photo below, you can see that Kate fell fast asleep in the middle of reading a book, which we thought was pretty funny. The Fair was tiring for all of us, but it was a nice way to finish up the holiday weekend. Back to school tomorrow!
