Uncle David's Birthday Party

Today we headed out to Nana's house to celebrate Uncle David's birthday. He's 29 again!
There were a lot of friends and family at Nana's, including Grandpa N., Uncle Seth's family, Melinda, Mark, and Millie.Nana served up a delicious meal of chicken wings, pulled pork, and pasta salad. Yum!Everyone really enjoyed the food.Emily loves to play with all her cousins, but especially Sebastian. They are like two peas in a pod.Kate tried watermelon for the first time--she thought it was pretty tasty.Nana made Uncle David his very favorite type of cake: Chocolate torte! The kids all gathered around in anticipation. The kids were right--the torte was delicious!Emily was in chocolate heaven.Em felt like Uncle might need help opening his presents, so she generously helped him out. After cake, Nana got all five cousins to sit in front of the lilac bush and pose for a photo. Then we headed down to the lake to go for a cruise in Uncle David's boat. All the kids were pretty excited about the boat ride. There wasn't enough room on the boat for everyone, so we left the second sailing folks on the dock and pushed off.Kate was worried about going "too fast", but Uncle David is a good skipper and he went just fast enough to keep her from getting scared. We cruised all around the lake that Mama and Uncle David grew up swimming and fishing in.Eventually Kate got comfortable with going faster, and we sped up quite a bit.The kids loved it!When we got back to the dock it was time for our family to leave, so we sent the second shift out on the boat. Em and Kate wanted to swim a little bit, but we didn't have their swimsuits, so it was skinny-dipping time!
This is the same beautiful spot where Mama used to swim as a little girl (although usually with clothes on!).
A nice end to a nice day. Happy Birthday Uncle David!

  2. I love the photo of Kate in her pink life-jacket with the wind blowing in her hair, and the last one of both of them in the lake.
