Today Grandma & Pop Pop invited us to go to the Children's Museum in Bangor with them! We were worried that it might be crowded (since the weather was down in the single digits with the wind chill), but there was hardly anyone else there. The kids were so excited that we stopped at the door to give a thumbs-up.
This Children's Museum happens to be the largest one north of Boston, and it has lots of fun stuff to try. There is a tennis ball ramp race........scooters and motorcycles to sit on....
...big fabric faces to build....
....magic handprints to make........and a room for the kids to rock out and watch their images go psychedelic on the big screen! There was a room with giant body parts, like this big set of teeth........and this massive heart.
Inside the heart there was a machine you could pedal to make the "blood" (rope lighting) pump faster. Pretty cool! There was a pretend doctor's examination room, where the kids spent some time doing checkups on these babies........and a music room where the kids could jam on the drums a little. We went to this museum about a year ago, and the girls remembered a few things from that trip. They kept searching for the "river", and finally we found it. This moving water was a big hit.
Besides the river, there were hand-operated pumps and pools and lots of boats to play with.
Pop Pop really enjoyed the water room too!
The girls got to try some fishing with these magnet poles....
...although Kate decided that just grabbing the fish with her hand was much easier.
We saw some real fish, and some turtles too, along with lizards and snakes. The kids liked the miniature stadium, and they insisted that we sit on the bleachers and watch them "perform".For Kate, this means a few dance moves or just standing there being a princess. For Emily, this means lots of running jump kicks. Then we found Emily's favorite part of the museum--the tree house! She loved climbing up really high.......and it actually looked pretty safe, so Mom let her do it over and over. She was very proud of herself.
One of Mom's favorite parts of the museum is the cargo ship, complete with crane and conveyor belt.Emily liked to pretend she was calling the Coast Guard...
....then offloading some cargo with the help of her sister.......then pulling the rope for the boat whistle. She was really looking like boat captain or a longshoreman there for a minute!
Even Grandma and Pop Pop got into the action on the cargo boat. Thanks for inviting us to go with you today Grandma and Pop Pop!
You're very welcome! We had a good time too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular place! I sure wish there was something like that around here. Looks like the girls had a fabulous time!
