The girls really like playing with this set of flashcards that Chris's Aunt Rheda gave them. The pictures are nice and bright and simple, and the cards are easy to handle. We love it because it's a guaranteed twenty minutes or so of (somewhat) quiet playing.
They like to pick out a box, dump out the cards, then go through the pile one by one, either counting the items or shouting out the words. We used to hold the cards up and have them guess, but they prefer it this way, which is fine with the moms!By the time they get through all the cards, Kate has usually separated out a few of her favorites (tonight it was Princess and Snowman) to savor.Tonight Kate also put her stubborn streak on display. She was laying out her cards in a row one by one (this is a classic Montessori classroom habit by the way) and when she got to the coffee table she refused to change course, continuing to lay them all out underneath the table. When that kid wants to do something, there's no stopping her! Thanks Aunt Rheda for the great set of flashcards!
