Another winter night, another try at a new craft idea. Tonight while Mama was busy raking all the new snow off the roof....
....Mom and the girls tried making some filter paper flowers. We did this at Noah and Leo's house and it was a big hit, so we thought we'd try it at home.First step: Draw a circle on a coffee filter and cut it out. Sounds easy, but it's more difficult for preschoolers than you might think! The kids needed lots of help from Mom for this step.Next step: Color the circles with marker pens. We finally figured out that it was much easier for the girls to color the circles BEFORE cutting them out. Note to self: At the end of the day when everyone is kind of tired, it's always a good idea to try to make things a little bit easier. Then comes the fun part: Place the colored circle over an empty glass, dip your finger in water, and dab the circle so the colors all run together.Repeat, repeat, repeat. If anyone is thinking of trying this craft, our advice is to use the brightest marker pens you can find (washable, of course). We seem to have the habit of leaving the caps off ours, so the colors were a little bit faded.Despite the learning curve, the kids enjoyed doing this, and it kept us busy for about 45 minutes. Kate's Concentration Face made yet another appearance........and we even got to see Emily's Concentration Face, which is a much more subtle pursing of the lips, accompanied by very quiet humming to herself. The kids loved looking at their finished flowers, and especially showing the tray to Mama. Now Mom has to figure out what to do with these flowers....maybe tape them to the windows? Thanks for the craft idea Hilary!
Clever idea! And one I've never heard of before.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! Wondering where you got those nifty little stampers, I have been looking for some for Addison but can't find them.
ReplyDeleteJamie, we got a set of 24 stamps from Amazon (search for "self-inking stamps for kids") for $6.00. They are great, but I was expecting 24 different animals, and instead we got 4 sets of the same six animals. Regardless, the kids like them and they are pretty sturdy.
ReplyDeleteThank you Brenda! Searching for them right now.
ReplyDeleteThe kids never tire of this one! Yes, but what to do with all of these disks. I bet Tina would know!
