Sandbox Roof Complete!

Today we tackled the final step for the sandbox roof: The shingles! Mom got a head start on it by stapling down the roofing felt the night before.
Once again Grandma and Pop Pop came over to help, which was greatly appreciated. Mom had never installed a shingle roof before, but she got a lot of advice from the guys at work, and felt ready to roll.Once Mom got the drip edge and starter row down, the rest was pretty easy. We all felt a little bit bad about hammering at 8:00 on Sunday morning, but we got over it. Sorry neighbors!Pop Pop proved to be an excellent shingle-cutter.Working together (with Grandma watching the kids), we got the job done in about four hours.Meanwhile, the kids did their job by playing with Grandma and staying out of the way.The very last shingle on the ridge is glued down with mastic instead of being nailed, so that no nail heads show anywhere on the roof. Mom was very happy when she got to the last one!Now the roof project is finally over, and we can move on to something else. Yay!
